FAIRFIELD — For all intents and purposes, the season for Fairfield Ludlowe is over. Just a couple of home games next week remain and after that, Falcons coach John Dailey will collect the uniforms and start planning for next season.
With just two wins notched to their belts coming into Wednesday’s game against town-rival Warde, they won’t come close to qualifying for the FCIAC or Class LL tournaments. All that was left for Ludlowe was to play for pride.
Boy, did they.
The Falcons gave Warde everything it wanted – and more – before a packed house at the Mustangs. It took Sean Conway’s 42 points to provide just enough of a cushion for Warde to capture an 80-73 victory, a game that had a state championship atmosphere.
