Sound Tigers win in OT at Rochester

Josh Ho-Sang drew all the attention in the corner. The Rochester Americans paid no mind to Travis St. Denis, all by himself in the slot.

Ho-Sang’s second effort got the puck from the left side to St. Denis, and St. Denis beat Rochester goalie Linus Ullmark glove-side 83 seconds into overtime Wednesday in the Bridgeport Sound Tigers’ 2-1 win at the War Memorial.

With 20 games remaining, Bridgeport is five points behind Charlotte for the fourth and final Atlantic Division playoff spot. The Sound Tigers have a game in hand.

Kevin Porter tried to get to the Bridgeport net in overtime but went down with a shove from Parker Wotherspoon.

Nelson, Fairfield basketball a perfect fit

FAIRFIELD —Social media was abuzz and Martin Bahar’s radar quickly picked up on the chatter.

Bahar, an assistant coach at Fairfield University at the time under Sydney Johnson, had heard about his kid from Branford, Mass. Skinny kid but athletic. Good shooter … no, make that a great shooter. So, he started reading the blogs and checking the websites that focused on high school basketball in the Northeast and in just about every one of these sites, the same kid’s name kept popping up.

Tyler Nelson.

“Basically, you read a lot and you try to keep tabs on kids, who’s developing, who’s getting taller, you know,” said Bahar. “He had a good sophomore year and then as a junior, I saw him play briefly.
